An unidentified middle-aged man slumped and died while dancing at a traditional wedding in Borokiri axis of old Port Harcourt Township in Rivers State.
It was learnt that the incident happened on Monday at a traditional marriage reception between the man’s relative from Ataba in Andoni Local Government Area of the state who got married to a lady from Asarama community all in the same LGA.
The deceased was said to be a community chief from Ataba.
The incident came to light after a video surfaced online on Tuesday and subsequently went viral.
The video showed the man, who was dressed in a traditional white top, black trousers and holding a white handkerchief, displaying his dancing skills to loud cheers of the wedding guests.
While the man continued dancing with some of the guests clapping and watching, he suddenly fell to the ground and no action was immediately by those in attendance.
The master of ceremony even made jokes suggesting it that was part of the dancing skills, saying: “Is this (sudden fall to the ground) part of the dance? Is fainting part of the dance? Is fainting part of the dance?”
The man then moved with his hands and head and attempted to stand up, but fell again and remained motionless on the ground.
A guest moved towards the man a few minutes later and two other guests subsequently followed to know what the problem was, but he was motionless when they touched him and rolled him sideways.
The men signalled to themselves and took the man away as people became anxious over the situation.
It was later learnt that one of the guest and a medical doctor, who confirmed the man’s death.
