Daniele De Rossi, ASRoma player has joined Argentina club side, Boca Juniors, on a free transfer. He announced his exit from the Italian club last season, after 18-year stay.
De Rossi was received at Buenos Aires’ Ezeiza airport and moved to have his medical done.
He is expected to join the squad for their first training on Friday, and he will be officially presented on Monday.
Many had expected that the 36-year-old would retire at Roma, where he has played all his life. However, he decided to leave when the club did not renew his contract this summer.
But rumours began to suggest the Italy international could move away after he said at a press conference that: “I still want to play football, it would be unjust to me if I decide to stop now.”
After agreeing to join the South America team, he was quoted as saying: “I don’t want to stop playing with the regret of not being able to wear the shirt of Boca.”
De Rossi will be Boca’s biggest signing of the current transfer window. It is believed that his relationship with Boca’s sporting director, Nicolás Burdisso, helped seal the deal.
Burdisso played at centre-back for Roma between 2009 and 2014.
The club also signed winger, Eduardo Salvio, from Benfica last week.
After the signing, Boca manager, Gustavo Alfaro, stated that De Rossi “will add his experience and quality”.
He will be one of the older players in the team and one year older than Carlos Tevez, who left Juventus in 2014 to join his boyhood club, after playing in the Champions League final.
