Five persons have lost their lives and 16 others injured severely after a car lost control and ran into a road market in Benue.

The accident occurred around 7 pm on Tuesday, May 31.

An eyewitness told newsmen that the vehicle was coming from Gboko town to Mkar when the incident happened.

“Five people were killed on the spot, and 16 people were injured and receiving treatment at private hospitals in Gboko. There are 12 injured people at St. Joseph and four others at Atuna hospitals in Gboko receiving treatment,” the witness explained.

Some of the victims have been identified as Manasseh Shima Buty Ukor, Terseer Pever, and Lember Wan Ipav.

Chairman of Gboko Local Government, James Kachina who confirmed the incident on Wednesday said 16 people were injured.

The council boss, accompanied by the leader of the Gboko Legislative House visited Atuna and St John’s hospitals in Gboko where the injured victims are receiving treatment.
