A sales representative has been docked at the Ikeja Magistrate Court for allegedly stealing N4million belonging to his employers, L’orange Bottled Water Company.
Police prosecutor, Ezekiel Ayorinde, told the court that 26-year-old man Obinna Igwebuike, between June 1, 2016 and Feb. 2, at Ilupeju, Lagos, committed the crime.
“The accused supplied some bottled water worth N4 million to various customers and converted the money to his personal use.
“He collected cash from the customers under the pretext of remitting it into the company’s account, but converted it to his own use,” said Ayorinde.
The prosecutor further said the accused forged receipts for various amounts and presented them as genuine ones before the company’s managing director.
“When an audit was carried out, it was discovered that the accused had supplied products to customers to the tune of N4 million that he could not account for.
“Based on the discovery, the accused was arrested and handed over to the police for further questioning,” he claimed.
Igwebuike pleaded “not guilty” to the alleged offence, following which trial magistrate O.J Awope granted him N500,000 bail.
He is also to produce two sureties in the like sum, who must be gainfully employed and have proofs of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case until March 3 for mention.
