Police operatives attached to the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS), in Anambra State, on Monday, traced and killed a robbery gang.
The SARS operatives were said to have responded to a distress call, after the robbers attacked one Chiegulem Chidera at Agouye Umuko Awka area of the state and snatched his Nissan Xtera with registration number; Cross River GGJ 492 AA, at gunpoint.
The suspects, who were trailed to Nkwo Agulu, on sighting the police, opened fire, in which the officers returned fire, Daily Independent reports.
Consequently, the two suspects, one Onyebuchi Ngala and Izuchukwu Okoro were fatally wounded during the encounter.
They were taken to an unnamed hospital, but confirmed dead on arrival by the doctor.
Exhibits recovered from the suspects include the snatched Xtera jeep; one AK-47 rifle; one pump action gun; six life cartridges; four expended ammunition; five life ammunition of 7.62mm, and two AK-47 magazines.
The gang were also assumed to be responsible for the abduction of one Emeka Chiaghana, an engineer, on October 25, 2019.
The case is still under investigation, as police are yet to locate his whereabouts
