Retired 23-time Grand Slam singles champion, Serena Williams has taken a step to join the faith as she got baptized on Sunday as one of the Jehovah’s Witnesses.
The baptism took place at the Jehovah’s Witness Assembly in West Palm Beach, Florida.
“Being a Jehovah’s Witness is important to me, but I’ve never really practiced it and have been wanting to get into it.” – Serena said in an interview with Vogue.
The veteran athlete who had announced her retirement from the court in September 2022, also expressed her desire to focus on her family and faith.
Oracene, Serena’s mom became a Jehovah’s Witness in the 1980s and raised her family in the faith as well. Serena has since been outspoken about her faith. After her matches, she has frequently thanked “Jehovah God” and has also mentioned her desire to further immerse herself in the faith.
The Williams family are staunch Jehovah’s Witnesses.
