The grieving sister of Vera Uwaila Omozuwa, the female student, who was gang-raped in a Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) parish in Benin City, Edo State, and later died, has revealed that she wanted to become a pastor and preach the word of God.

Her older sibling, Judith, 24, disclosed that even after Uwaila gained admission into the University of Benin (UNIBEN) last year to study microbiology, she did not stop taking theological classes at a local parish of the RCCG in the state.
Uwaila’s was seriously injured by her attackers after raping her.

The 100 level student, who was reportedly found half-naked inside the church in a pool of blood, was rushed to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, where she died.
“She wanted to be a minister and preach the word of God. The church was her favorite place to be,” Judith told CNN in a telephone interview.

“That she was murdered where she always found peace is just devastating.”
“Omozuwa usually went to the church on weekdays to study to avoid distractions from her siblings at home”.

She further revealed that the deceased complained of being disturbed by the noise of the television set at home, prompting her to leave for church to read on the day she was killed.
“Uwa complained that we made a lot of noise at home watching TV and it was getting worse now that everyone is at home.

“That day she was wearing one of my clothes and I was teasing her. “She said that is what sisters do,” Judith added.
Police have arrested a man in connection with Uwaila’s death, after fingerprint on the fire extinguisher she was attacked with was examined.
