Abubakar Shekau, factional leader of Boko Haram terrorist group, has reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack that rocked Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, on Tuesday.

Explosions and gun shots had rocked Maiduguri on the evening of February 23, throwing residents into a state of panic.
About 16 persons were said to have been killed in the attack that involved the use of mortars and rockets.
The attack was repelled by the Nigerian army.

According to reports, Shekau, in a five-minute and thirty-two seconds-long video released on Thursday, said an infiltration team carried out the attack.
He also denied claims of owning the farm that was recently discovered and destroyed by the army in Sambisa forest.
The army had released a video on February 20, showing troops destroying a farm said to belong to Shekau.
Some captives were also freed.
