Security agents in mufti, believed to be from Kaduna police command, have reportedly arrested a Sokoto-based Islamic scholar, Bello Yabo, for criticizing Nasir El-Rufai, Kaduna State governor, over ban on Eid prayer in the state.

Yabo had in a viral video clip days ago, taken a swipe at El-Rufai and scholars in the state, for the continuous ban on religious gatherings in the state.
Speaking to Daily Trust, Abdullahi Abubakar-Yabo, nephew of the arrested scholar, claimed that his uncle was arrested around 4.00pm on Friday, and transported to Kaduna, where he will be charged.

According to Abubakar-Yabo, policemen in mufti came to the scholar’s residence while they were saying their Asr prayer.
He said immediately after the prayer, the policemen called the scholar aside and showed him a warrant of arrest issued by a Kaduna Magistrate Court.

“After reading the paper, Malam did not utter a word, he just moved into his house, came back and entered their vehicle.
“It was after they left that he called and notified us about the arrest, that the Attorney-General of Kaduna State had written a petition against him over his recent remarks against their governor,” Abdullahi-Yabo was quoted as saying.
