Soldiers of Operation Lafiya Dole of an unidentified battalion have protested unpaid allowances and poor equipment in Borno State.
Channels Television quoted sources as saying that the aggrieved soldiers at the Maimalari barracks besieged the headquarters of the Theatre Command in the state, shooting sporadically into the air on Thursday, following their deployment.
The publication said the soldiers also mentioned their posting to a particular location in the Theatre of Operation for their rebellion.
According to the report, some of the soldiers who spoke under anonymity, recall how a whole unit that went for reinforcement when Marte was captured last month perished under superior firepower of Boko Haram.
The protest is coming on the heels of the mystery surrounding arms procurements exposed by Babagana Monguno, the National Security Adviser (NSA), in which he claimed that the leadership of the country is in the dark on the whereabouts of the funds allocated to buy weapons for soldiers.
He had mentioned during an interview with BBC Hausa Service, that about ₦1 billion cannot be accounted for.
Colonel Ado Isa, Media Coordinator for Operation Lafiya Dole, as well as the Director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima, have not responded to the development.
