Two Nigerians have allegedly been killed by South Africans in the last 48 hours, news agency said. The victims are Ikechukwu Mmanwoke Edmond, 40, who was killed on November 11, and Eluka Agu, on November 13. Mmanwoke was said to be from Ihembosi, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra. The report said he was killed in front of his house on Amant Street, Malvern, Johannesburg, after which his assailants broke down his doors and looted his properties.
“ When she (Sibongile ) raised alarm, they started beating her. When Ikechukwu came in and saw what was happening, he brought out his phone to call the police. A member of the gang took a brick and hit him in the face and he fell down. When the police arrived, he was already dead,” a source was quoted as saying.
The other victim, Agu, hailed from Ihiala, also in Anambra. He was allegedly robbed and then beaten by some South Africans at Oliven, Centurion. Witnesses claimed police arrived the scene, but rather than take him to the hospital for treatment, they led him to his house for a search.
“The victim pleaded with the police to take him to the hospital for treatment but they refused.
“ After searching his house without finding anything, he died as a result of the severe beating’’.
The Nigerian population in South Africa has witnessed xenophobic attacks from their hosts, while over a hundred of them have been murdered extra-judicially.
