The Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has constituted a seven-man reconciliatory committee to resolve the lingering crises rocking the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF).
This was announced in a statement signed by Ismaila Abubakar, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, on Friday.
According to the statement, the committee has Seyilayo Ojo as its Chairman and Abba Abdullahi Yola as the Vice-Chairman.
Other members are Babs Ogunade, Mukhtar Khaleeh, Niyi Alebiosu and Ikeddy Isiguzo, while Toyin Aluko will serve as the committee’s Secretary.
Abubakar said the terms of reference of the committee include looking into the claims of the contending parties for the leadership of the basketball Federation and reviewing any other matter or areas of conflict.
Apart from amicably resolving the disagreements and disaffections within the basketball Federation of Nigeria, the committee is also expected to reposition the game for development in Nigeria.
The NBBF has been in a quagmire since 2017 following the dispute in the leadership of the federation between factions belonging to Tijani Umar and Musa Kida respectively. This crisis has, unfortunately, affected the domestic basketball league, which has remained moribound.
