A Monday court trial involving close aides of Pope Francis has been predicted to raise a storm in the Vatican. Francesca Chaouqui, one of the five accused of leaking confidential documents in the Vatican has claimed she was acting on Pope Francis’ behalf. Chaouqui, former PR to the Vatican, was accused of leaking information on the out-of-control spending in the world’s Catholic Church headquarters and some top clerics’ love for luxury. Chaouqui has reportedly been granted the right to call two witnesses, namely Cardinal Pietro Parolin and two of Pope Francis’ confidantes, charity supremo Archbishop Konrad Krajewski and Cardinal Santo Abrily Castello, who heads a panel overseeing the scandal-hit Vatican bank. Others include two journalists, Gianluigi Nuzzi and Emiliano Fittipaldi, who have published books based on the documents.
