The students who were abducted from Government Day Secondary School, Kaya, in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State, have been freed after spending nearly two weeks in captivity.

The students were freed on Sunday, according to the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) on its Facebook page.

The students, said to be 75 in number, were kidnapped by bandits in Maradun, the hometown of Bello Matawalle, Governor of Zamfara State, on 1 September.

Five of the students, however, escaped from their abductor’s den the following day.

It is not yet clear if any ransom was paid before the students were released or their release was as a result of the ongoing military action against bandits and criminal elements in the state.
