About six people were killed Sunday when a suicide bomber detonated an explosive at a Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, parish in Potiskum, Yobe state. The male killer was said to have driven a motorized rickshaw to the church, alighted and executed the worshippers, comprising three males, including the pastor, and three females. Toyin Gbadegesin, Police spokesman for the state command, confirmed the attack. The female victims were a woman and her two children, AFP says. “A male suicide bomber detonated a bomb at Redeem Church at Jigawa area of Potiskum, killing five on the spot”, he stated. He added that the sixth victim died while being treated in a hospital for her injuries.
Boko Haram insurgents have intensified bomb attacks in some states of the northeastern Nigeria, including Yobe that is considered as the insurgency hotbed. A four-nation military strategy to combat the scourge since the inauguration of a new government in Nigeria has seen fierce riposte and dare-devilry by the Islamic fundamentalists group, seeking to establish a caliphate in the north of Nigeria.
