Some suspected vandals of the Warri-Itakpe rail line, who destroyed the tracks and stole the rail rods, have been arrested.
The Itakpe-Warri railway line, which links Warri in Delta State to Ajaokuta in Kogi State, was commissioned by President Muhammadu Buhari in September last year.
Rotimi Amaechi, Minister of Transportation, in April, flagged off freight and haulage services on the rail line to boost economic activities.
The vandals had used saw-like objects to cut the rail lines in pieces in a viral video on social media, endangering the lives of commuters.
Fidet Okhiria, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), had said disclosed that the vandalisation occurred around KM 30, Adogo, a Kogi section of the rail.
