Parents of Dowen College, Lagos, have demanded that justice be served in the case of the late Sylvester Oromoni, a student of the institution who died in controversial circumstances.
The parents made their demand known when they held a candlelight procession in honour of the deceased student on Wednesday.
Following the incident, the parents were clad in black t-shirts with the inscription: ‘Dowen Parents Mourn’, and raised lit candles as they sang a variety of solemn hymns during the event on Wednesday.
They also carried placards with photographs of the late 12-year-old student, demanding ‘Justice for Sylvester Oromoni’ as they moved from the front of the sealed college to other parts of Lekki, Lagos.
The father of the deceased boarding student had alleged that the JSS2 pupil died from the injuries sustained during an assault by five of his colleagues who wanted to initiate him into cultism.
However, the school claimed the student died after sustaining an injury during a football match.
Hakeem Odumosu, the Lagos Commissioner of Police, had on Tuesday, announced that some students and staff are currently in police custody for the alleged assault.
