Samson Akingbade, a 14-year-old boy, drowned on Christmas day in a swimming pool of a hotel in Ijako, Sango-Ota, Ogun State.
It was gathered that Akingbade and his friends had gone to the hotel to have fun when the incident occured.
Akingbade and his friends were said to have gone into the swimming pool, but the teenager died, with his friends left helpless as they did not notice in time.
The deceased’s body was said to have floated after some hours, resulting in a chaos as some persons blamed the hotel for the incident and attempted to burn it down.
The hotel, it was learnt, was subsequently shut down to prevent a crisis.
Abimbola Oyeyemi, the Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Police Command, confirmed the incident.
According to Oyeyemi, the remains of the deceased has been deposited at a morgue for investigation on the remote and immediate cause of death, adding that investigations have commenced.
“One Samson Akingbade, 14, was at the hotel with his friends. They were swimming when he drowned. Some boys wanted to attack the hotel but the police quickly took over the situation and restored normalcy,” the Ogun PPRO said.
