The beginning of 2022 was a celebratory one just as getting to the month of December is a gift. Nollywood was at its best this year as it gave us great movies back to back in 2022. It is great to see that the Nigerian movie industry (Nollywood) is evolving and releasing a healthy number of movies on Netflix and across all movie platforms.
The amount of relatively good movies that were released this year are a lot but we’ll be looking at the Top Five that got us glued to our screen, waiting in anticipation and suspense, laughed whole heartedly to the characters’ antics, made us bawl our eyes out and left us in surprise when the movies ended.
Anikulapo

Anikulapo is a Netflix movie directed by Kunle Afolayan. The cast we would say, was carefully picked to suit their roles perfectly. It came on top 10 movies on Netflix in Nigeria as Nigerians were eager to see this movie that was breaking the internet.
King of Thieves
Also known as Ogundabede, this Nigerian thriller was produced by Femi Adebayo and directed by Tope Adebayo and Adebayo Tijani. The movie has a good plot with carefully picked casts. We can also say that the movie seemed to have been very unpredictable. Good graphics but an average storyline.
The Groit
This is also a Netflix Nigerian movie that made waves in 2022. Directed by Adeoluwa Owu, the storyline is about a shy but skilled storyteller who comes to blows with his best friend who tries to take credit for his tales and win the heart of the woman they both love. The movie is an attempted tragic one as it had extra scenes that are unnecessary, because nothing from the start of the movie points to it being a tragedy. And of course, the internet made plenty of noise about the movie.
Aki and Pawpaw
After these duo went viral as stickers and gifs for moods, the duo returned to our big screens and made waves which shortly quieted down as people weren’t as hyped as they were when they stepped into the cinema. Whether the movie was great or not, it did make waves in 2022.
Glamour Girls
The last but not the least, Glamour girls. Directed by Bunmi Ajakaiye, the movie explores the women who embark on glamorous and luxurious lifestyles through escorting. Nigerians found this movie quite relatable which was why it made waves.
