Age is just a number to everyone until you start seeing throwbacks that will make nostalgia hit you like a meteor rock. We have highlighted these old Nigerian artists and their hit songs that will take you down memory lane. Kindly play any of these songs after reading this article, then share the article with your friends and family that think they aren’t aging.
Obiwon – Obi Mu O
Obiwon captured our hearts with this song and the song even got better when a remix was made which featured M.I, Guchi, Blaise and Illbliss. We do not know where Obiwon eloped to but this particular song of his turned a hard guy to a soft guy, melted frozen hearts and it also deserves to be played at every wedding.
Terry-G – Akpako Master
Terry- G with his eccentric style and a touch of kolo in his music which gave those who couldn’t dance to save their lives a chance to just do anyhow in the name of dancing. Before Small Doctor and Portable took away the crown of street music, you could call Terry-G the King of street music and this song, the chief song of vawulence – “tile tile make I nak you akpako…”
Olu Maintain – Yahooze
Whatever this song meant, we didn’t know but we ensured we raised our fingers and danced. This song by Olu Maintain was played everywhere, school parties, weddings, birthday parties, everywhere! “Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Boys dey hustle… yahoozeee.” Okay, we can read the meanings to this song now.
Faze – Kolomental
Majority of the songs released by Faze had good vibes but this particular song? To think that we actually vibed to this song and were shouting “Kolomental! Kolokolo!” It probably shows how Nigerians loved vawulence since the beginning of time and had kolo tendencies. If you look up Faze now on google, you’ll find that people have been asking “is Faze still alive?” That’s just an obvious indication of how he disappeared from the limelight.
Styl-Plus – Olufunmi
Our favorite trio had everyone and their grannies singing “Olufunmi o ma pa mi lekun o”. Play this song anywhere and listen to people sing along. They may not know the artists behind the song but they certainly knew the lyrics. Shifi, Tunde and Zeal, kindly make a comeback so we’ll know you are still alive.
Tell us the songs that shook Nigerians in the early 2000s and do not forget to like and share!
