Thieves who looted goods from the stores belonging to victims of the Ekiosa Market fire disaster in Edo State, have returned some items they stole less than 24 hours later.
Priests from the dreaded Ayelala Shrine had placed curses on everyone who looted shops in the market.
It would be recalled that some section of the market caught fire on Sunday, destroying goods worth million of Naira.
It was gathered that many of the suspected looters have been returning stole stolen items to parts of the market, and the palace of the Oba of Benin.
Blacky Omoregie, President of the Market Women Association in the state, confirmed this, when a delegation from the Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, paid a sympathy visit to the market.
She said several items, ranging from bags of rice, rolls of wrappers, cartons and gallons of groundnut oil, goats and others have been dumped at different parts of the market.
“Those who are putting fire on our markets should be arrested and those using the opportunity to steal our goods in the market would no longer be free this time,” she said.
One of the affected traders, Gentle Imuetinyan Usoh, said he has received parts of his goods that were stolen, and that more items will be recovered in no time, with the invitation of Ayelala priests.
