Three persons are feared to have died when a petrol tanker fell and burst into flames at Ogere axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Wednesday. The three occupants of the tanker were reported to have been trapped in the fire. Eyewitnesses said the driver had been reckless and the vehicle fell on its side causing it to catch fire. A white bus parked by the road side was also said to have been burnt in the inferno.
Babatunde Akinbiyi, the Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, confirmed the incident. He said the accident led to gridlock on that axis of the road, forcing the diversion of the traffic to the other lane.
Clement Oladele, the State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, said firefighters from Sagamu, were on the scene of the fire as at 7:40pm.
