World Football Governing body, FIFA, has announced that sale of tickets for the 2018 world Cup in Russia will commence on Thursday. It said, in a media release, on Tuesday that the tickets will be exclusively sold on FIFA.com/tickets.
FIFA Secretary General, Fatma Samoura, said : “We have put in place a ticketing system that will enable all fans a fair chance to secure tickets. Throughout history, fans have made a key contribution to the fascination of the FIFA World Cup.
“Russia promises to be a unique continuation of this history, with outstanding organisation and a great atmosphere in the stadiums”.
The tickets will be available during different phases of sales. The first phase of sales is divided into two stages. It said fans will have to submit their applications for consideration. It also said in cases where applications exceed the number of available tickets, tickets will be allocated by a random draw process. All successful, partially successful and unsuccessful applicants will be duly notified of the outcome of their applications by November 16.
The governing body also said from November 16 to 28, tickets will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. The second phase of tickets sales will begin after the Final Draw of the 2018 FIFA World Cup on December 1.
It stated that at the request of the Russian authorities, all fans attending matches at the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ need to apply for a FAN ID – the official identity document issued to fans. Fans are encouraged to apply for this free document as soon as possible after they received their ticket confirmation email following the conclusion of the random selection draw period.
The FAN ID and a valid ticket are required for fans to be able to enter the 2018 FIFA World Cup™ stadiums. Having a FAN ID gives fans additional benefits and services provided by the host country, such as visa-free entry to the Russian Federation, certain free inter-host city travel and free use of public transport on matchdays.
