Traders and customers at Agboju market, Festac, Lagos, have continued to flout COVID-19 guidelines despite the shutting down of the market and three others by the Amuwo Odofin Local Government last week for the same offence.

Olusegun Idris, Vice Chairman of the Council, had told NAN last week that the action became necessary because of rising cases of COVID-19 in the area. He said despite sensitization programmes about the virus, the community refused to adhere to safety protocols.
Idris also noted that they had held several meetings with the market leaders to address the issue to no avail. He said the market would only be reopened when they meet the requirements.

Some of the traders told our correspondent that an undisclosed amount of money was paid before the market was reopened.

Our correspondent observed on Friday that the traders still flout the COVID-19 safety guidelines. Despite the market leadership placing a banner saying ‘no face mask, no entry’ at the entrance of the market, many were seen going about their businesses without face masks.
