Moses Tarnongo, a lecturer in University of Mkar, his wife and three children have been killed in a horrific auto crash in Benue State.

Two other persons, including another lecturer in the same institution, Joshua Leva, also died in the accident, which occurred on Saturday evening at Gbatse community along Ugbema-Adikpo road, in Ushongo Local Government Area of the state.

Registrar of the university, Emmanuel Astor, who confirmed the incident on Sunday in Makurdi, said Tarnong was killed alongside his wife and three children.
He also said he and the other lecturer were from the department of Mass Communication.

The registrar said the victims were travelling to Adikpo in Kwande local government, to see a cleric, when the incident happened.
Reports quote an eyewitness account as saying that a trailer truck rammed into a stationary Toyota car with registration number MKD-300-NH, the one the victims were travelling in, crushing the occupants to death.

The witness claimed that the driver of the truck attempted to dodge a police checkpoint, when he rammed into the car.
It was gathered that it took hours to bring out the bodies from the crushed vehicle.
Confirming the incident, Joyce Akura, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) public enlightenment officer in the state, said the incident occurred along Ugbemea-Adikpo road.

She added that a total of 12 passengers were involved in the crash.
Akura explained that seven passengers were confirmed dead, one was injured and was receiving treatment, while the remaining four escaped unhurt.

The FRSC official stated that the cause of the accident has not been ascertained, adding that the corps will conduct a “crash investigation’’ to determine the cause of the crash.
According to her, the bodies of the victims have already been deposited at a morgue in Ushongo.
