Ghanaian sports journalist, Gary Al-Smith, says multiple reports that Cameroon captain Vincent Aboubakar had his contract terminated by his club, Al Nassr of Saudi Arabia, are “inaccurate and harsh”.
Newsbreak.ng reports that according to Al-Smith, the situation between the player and the club is “not as acrimonious as being presented” in the media, adding that Aboubakar already made a decision to move back to Europe and has communicated his intention to the Saudi league heavyweights.
NEW: Vincent Aboubakar 🇨🇲
As I tweeted yesterday, the player made a decision between two EU clubs, communicated to Al Nassr, and ended the relationship.
Situation NOT as acrimonious as being presented. “Contract termination”, “player sacked” all inaccurate and rather harsh. https://t.co/97vvKUm827 pic.twitter.com/bVokuEp1Dh

“As I tweeted yesterday (Friday), the player made a decision between two EU clubs, communicated to Al Nassr, and ended the relationship.
“Situation NOT as acrimonious as being presented. “Contract termination”, “player sacked” all inaccurate and rather harsh,” Al-Smith wrote on his verified Twitter account.
Recall that after Al Nassr signed football superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo on December 31, 2022, and following his unveiling earlier this month (January), reports emerged that the Real Madrid and Manchester United legend cannot play for his new club because there is no vacancy for an overseas player in their squad. Hence, the purported need to discard Aboubakar.
The African star who became prominent during his time at FC Porto has been linked with a loan move to Manchester United, who are searching for a replacement for Ronaldo.
