The police on Monday arraigned two men in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly knocking off a man’s teeth.

The police charged Korede Komolafe, a cobbler and Tunde Ahmed a mechanic, with five  counts of conspiracy, assault, damage, breach of peace and causing grievous harm, to which they pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecution Counsel, Sgt. Ishola Samuel, told the court that defendants, who reside in Alagbado area of Lagos, beat up the complainant, Emmanuel Ettah, knocking off his incisors on the spot.

According him, the defendants committed the offence on May 19 at No 30, Okedumola St., Alagbado, a suburb of Lagos.

Samuel said that a fight broke out when the complainant confronted the defendants, demanding to know why they beat up his sister.

He said the defendants also damaged Ettah’s phone which valued at N25,000.

The offence, he said contravened the provisions of sections 411, 173, 245, 339 and 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 173 prescribes a three-year jail term for assault occasioning harm.

The Magistrate, Mrs I.A. Abina, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N100,000 each and two sureties in like sum.

Abina ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and must also show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The case was adjourned until June 24 for mention.
