Two people having a spiritual cleansing in a stream in the Egbe-Idimu Local Council Development Area of Lagos State have been burnt to death after a pipeline exploded in the area on Thursday.
Reports say the persons had been seeking an end to their life problems before they were consumed by the fire. The pastor, who had been conducting the cleansing, fled when he saw the fire approaching.
Another victim of the fire is reportedly undergoing treatment at the Igando General Hospital.
The started after a pipeline belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) was vandalised. The resultant explosion affected four locations in the community.
Nosa Okunbor, the spokesman of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed the number of victims. He said sponges used for the bath were discovered at the scene of the inferno.
He added that rescue operations are still on at the time of writing this report.
