Two men were Friday arraigned before an Ebute Metta Magistrates’ Court for theft.
The defendants, Emeka Sunday, 29, and Onyebuchi Okoye, 35, are standing trial on a three count charge of stealing and receiving stolen property.
The prosecutor, Inspector Babatope Julius, told the court that the defendants conspired to steal N2million from one John Philips.
The first defendant, Sunday, was said to have carted away with the money and kept N600,000, being part of the sum, with his accomplice, Okoye.
Julius said the accused committed the crime between January and September 2017 before they were discovered.
He added that the offence contravened and is punishable under Sections 280, 411 and 328 (1) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.
The presiding magistrate, B.F. Williams, granted them bail in the sum of N200,000 each with two sureties in like sum. She said the sureties must be blood relatives and must possess evidence of tax payment.
The case was adjourned till November 27, 2017.
