Football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, confirmed on Friday that Dutch international defender, Tyrell Malacia, has agreed personal terms with Manchester United.
Below are some of the things you may not have heard or read about the 22-year-old:
- He was born to Curaçaoan and Surinamese parents.
- The defender was named in the UEFA Europa Conference League Team of the Season in 2022, after earning a runners-up medal in the competition.
- He joined the Feyenoord youth academy at the age of nine in 2008.
- Malacia signed his first professional contract with them on 2 December 2015.
- He has five international caps at senior level.
- Despite only being 22 years old, he amassed 137 appearances for Feyenoord, registering four goals and 10 assists in those games.
- Current United manager Erik ten Hag reportedly wanted to sign Malacia last summer but a deal wasn’t possible due to the huge rivalry Ajax have with Feyenoord.
- His game is based on speed and stamina with Malacia a willing runner down the left flank, working tirelessly defensively and showcasing ambition to join the attack when required.
- Malacia’s tenacious tackling has earned the defender the nickname ‘Pitbull’ from the Feyenoord fans, though his attacking contribution is in need of development after a modest return of 14 goals and assists from 137 appearances.
- Off the pitch, Malacia is said to be very grounded, humble and well-connected to his roots in South Rotterdam.
