The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria have crashed out of this year’s FIFA U-17 World Cup after losing 3-1 to the Netherlands in the round of 16 in the early hours of Wednesday.
A hat-trick from Sontje Hansen saw the Dutch side progress into the quarter-final.
The Dutch took the lead in the fourth minute as Hansen got on the score sheet, but the Eaglets were back on level terms in the 12th minute through Olakunle Olusegun’s goal.
Hansen put the Dutch back in front just three minutes after Olusegun’s equaliser to make it 2-1.
With 10 minutes remaining, Hansen completed his hat-trick when he converted from the penalty spot.
It was the Eaglets’ second defeat of the tournament after losing 1-2 to Australia in their last group game.
