Arsenal have been drawn against Italian giants AC Milan in the Europa League round of 16. The Gunners scraped through to the next round after losing 1-2 to Swedish minnows Ostersunds at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday night.
The Gunners will play a revitalised Milan side at the San Siro before the return leg in London. Their Italian opponents are coached by former midfield general, Gennaro Gattuso.
AC Milan thrashed Ludogorets Razgrad 4-0 over both legs to qualify for the round of 16. The Rosonerri had qualified as top of Group D with 11 points, scoring 13 times and conceding 6 times while the Gunners amassed 13 points, scoring 14 times and conceding just 4 times to finish top of Group H.
Newsbreak.ng recalls that AC Milan thrashed Arsenal 4-0 when the sides both last met in a European competition, the Champions League, in 2012. Although the Gunners bounced back with a 3-0 victory in the second leg, it was not enough to earn a place in the next round. Also, the Italians were 2-0 winners over Arsenal when they met in the 1995 UEFA Super Cup.
However, in the 2007/08 season, Arsenal knocked AC Milan out of the Champions League, scoring two late goals in the San Siro to win 2-0 on aggregate.
