A 22-year-old final year student of the University of Benin, Caleb Obasogie has allegedly stabbed his mother, Josephine Igbineweka, 55 over her refusal to give him money.
The incident was said to have happened around 8.a.m on Friday at their 31A, Iyamu Street, Off Textile Mill Road residence in Benin City, Edo state.
A neighbour, who pled anonymity said the suspect, the deceased’s last child, locked himself and his mother in one of the rooms and used a broken bottle to stab her repeatedly until her intestines were ripped out.
He reportedly mangled her mother’s intestines before neighbours could rush in to rescue her.
The source claimed to have accommodated the deceased overnight when her son locked her out and other neighbours, described the incidence as a scene from a horror movie.
Obasogie is a final year education student of the University of Benin, while his late mother was a beer parlour operator in Benin.
Meanwhile, the suspect has been arrested and is being detained at Textile Mill Road police division in Benin City.
His arrest was confirmed by Edo Police Command spokesman, DSP Moses Nkombe.
