On Wednesday, unknown gunmen assaulted a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign gathering in Enugu State, killing at least one person and injuring several others.

According to multiple sources, the gunmen attacked Awgu Ward, a PDP campaign site, and opened fire on party members.

Engr. Osita Ngwu, the PDP senatorial candidate, Chief Anayo Onwuegbu, House of Representatives candidate for Awgu/Aninri/Oji-River Federal Constituency, and many other candidates and party members attended the sad Enugu West event.

A viral video captured the moment a female victim was being brought to the hospital after being shot.

The development comes as unidentified gunmen have continued to cause mayhem in several South-East region states.

Chris Ohizu, the local government chairman of Ideato in Imo State, was recently executed by unidentified assailants. In the lead-up to the general elections in 2023, the recent attacks have continued to raise concerns about the safety of electorates. However, several analysts projected voter apathy in the area due to the very alarming increase in insecurity.
