A gas tanker exploded on Thursday at Cele Bus stop, Iju Ishaga area of Lagos State, injuring at least 50 persons and razing numerous buildings.
Buildings affected by the explosion include Muslak Gas Plant and one events centre.
Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, Director-General of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed the incident.
He said efforts are being made by men of the agency to put out the resulting fire from the explosion, with support from the Lagos State Fire Service, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
LASEMA said investigation revealed that an unknown truck conveying gasoline had a lone accident and exploded.
“The impact of the explosion led to fire on adjoining buildings and several vehicles burnt,” the agency said.
“Several persons were injured and have been taken to the nearest hospital for treatment.”
