Despite the inherent dangers of siphoning a flammable liquid such as diesel, some Lagosians were seen carrying numerous jerrycans and struggling to scoop the spilled content at the scene of the incident.

Officials of the Lagos State Fire Service and Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), however, arrived at the scene of the incident some minutes later.

The arrival of the emergency personnel did not deter the siphoners, who rushed to the drainages after they were cleared off the scene to continue their illicit activity.

Gboyega Akosile, the Chief Press Secretary to Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos State Governor, advised motorists in a post on Twitter to use alternative routes as the Bonny Camp road was cordoned off pending when the fallen tanker will be evacuated.
