The tanker upturned at the Marina Bridge opposite the military cantonment, with its content spilling across the road.
Despite the inherent dangers of siphoning a flammable liquid such as diesel, some Lagosians were seen carrying numerous jerrycans and struggling to scoop the spilled content at the scene of the incident.
Officials of the Lagos State Fire Service and Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), however, arrived at the scene of the incident some minutes later.

The arrival of the emergency personnel did not deter the siphoners, who rushed to the drainages after they were cleared off the scene to continue their illicit activity.
