Several residents have expressed their views concerning the council elections expected to hold on Saturday, July 22 across the 20 local government and local council development areas, LCDAs in Lagos state.
While some look forward to casting their votes, a few others have said they would not participate in the exercise. A sales boy identified as Ugochukwu told Newsbreak.ng it was needless participating because of his past experiences. When asked what the experiences were, he said “there is no benefit standing under the sun to vote for people who do not fulfill their promises eventually”
Another woman, who hawks handkerchiefs by the roadside in Ojota, expressed pessimism about the elections.
“The people are angry and KAI (Kick Against Discipline) still disturbs us.
“Why they are calm this period is because of the elections, once it is over, they will continue from where they stopped.
“I don’t think people would vote.” she said emphatically.
An Islamic cleric, Ibrahim Q said he wasn’t casting his vote because he just relocated out of Lagos.
He noted that the restriction of movement imposed by the Lagos state government compounded the issue as it is impossible to get to his polling center in Ojota to participate in the elections.
KAI, Kick Against Indiscipline is a brigade set up by the Lagos state Ministry of Environment to curb street hawking or trading.
