A trailer, on Wednesday, crushed about 14 persons to death in Lagos after suffering a brake failure.

The incident occurred along Ikorodu-Shagamu road, in Ikorodu.

Newsbreak gathered that a similar incident had happened along the road last week around Living Faith Church area, in which five tricycle passengers reportedly died.

Residents of the area who spoke to our correspondent, alleged that officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) extort motorists rather than ensuring that trailers and tankers which ply the road often are road worthy.

Babatunde Fashola, Minister of Works and Housing, had flagged-off the reconstruction of the road in 2018, due to its near unmotorable condition.

According to Fashola, the N20.8 billion reconstruction project would take about 18 months before completion.

However, the construction company, Arab Contractors, abandoned the project in 2020 during the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country and has not returned to site since then.

Newsbreak gathered that the Federal Government is owing the construction company.
