Some female inmates of Mtangani GK Prison in Malindi, Kilifi County, Kenya, have begged their government to institute a law that will allow them enjoy sexual intimacy with their visiting spouses.

Sofia Swaleh, who is serving a life sentence, speaking on behalf of other inmates, said the time allocated to their visiting spouses and relatives is brief, and does not allow for sexual intimacy.
“The Government, through the leadership of Kenyan prisons, should introduce a law that allows women serving lengthy jail terms enjoy sexual intimacy with their visiting husbands,” she said.

Purity Nkatha Muthaura, Mtangani GK Prison senior administrator, told news outlet, K24 Digital, that it will be impossible to allow the female inmates, or even male inmates, enjoy conjugal rights, except a new law from the country’s parliament allows it.
A proposal which was meant to allow married prison inmates have sexual relationship with their spouses was rejected by the Kenyan government in 2014.
