Ahmed Lawan, Senate President, has assured that the attacks on Imo State police command headquarters and a correctional facility will not happen again in any part of the country.
Lawan spoke on Friday in Owerri, the Imo State capital, while commissioning the Akachi road rehabilitated by governor Hope Uzodinma.
Unknown gunmen, on Monday, overran the facilities in a coordinated attack.
The senate president also called for increased funding for security agencies in the country, to tackle incessant attacks on federal government establishments, especially in the wake of what happened in Imo.
He expressed optimism over the ability of the country to overcome its various challenges.
Lawan said that increased funding will enable security agencies to procure adequate weapons and manpower needed to combat the spate of insecurity in the country.
He condemned the attacks on security formations in Imo state and the illegal release of inmates at the Owerri correctional service by the gunmen.
He pledged that the national assembly will continue to enact laws that would enable security agents perform their responsibilities.
Speaking earlier, Uzodimma pledged his commitment to work for Imo people, in line with the ‘3Rs mantra’ of his administration.
