Fola Tinubu, Managing Director, Primero Transport Services Limited, operators of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) in Lagos State, has disclosed that the company is making efforts to curtail the recklessness of some of its drivers.
Tinubu said this in an exclusive interview with Newsbreak.
He stated that apart from consistent training, the company randomly breathalyses its over 700 drivers, to test their level of alcohol consumption.
The Primero managing director also said in the bid to check excesses of its drivers, the company is the first in Nigeria to introduce speed guns.
“We are training our drivers. In fact, we organised quarterly training for them. We breathalyse them randomly daily. We are the first company in Nigeria that will introduce speed guns to monitor our drivers’ speed.
“Nobody has done that in Nigeria before. Our drivers don’t know where the people monitoring their speed are going to be, they are all over the corridor. So we are doing so many things to curtail the excesses of the drivers.
“But the key thing is we will continue to train them, we’ll continue to talk to them. We have over 700 drivers, the majority of them are very responsible, but there is no way you will put that kind of number together and not get the odd ones that will misbehave. As we discover the bad ones, we will weed them out and we will continue to train the others”, he said.
Tinubu further said the company is looking to have 10 to 15 percent of its drivers as females.
“We are constantly looking for ways to recruit more female drivers. If you have any female that wants to drive, please be my guest, let me know. My goal is, I want us to have at least 10 to 15 percent of our drivers to be female,” he said.
