The Lagos Police Command said it has arrested the driver of the heavy-duty truck which crushed an unspecified number of students to death in the Ojudu-Berger axis of Lagos State on Tuesday.
Adekunle Ajisebutu, the command’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed this to journalists in an interview on Tuesday.
“The driver has been arrested. Investigation into the accident is ongoing,” Ajisebutu told reporters.
The incident lead to chaos as an irate mob set a truck on fire and also chased the driver to the Ogba area of Lagos, where he was eventually apprehended by the police.
It was learnt the irate mob had attempted to burn down the police station in a bid to dish out jungle justice to the driver, forcing police operatives to shoot tear gas and bullets in dispersing them away.
