Being single in your 20s might be among the top 10 things that can bring you satisfaction, an illusionary amount of happiness and a big bowl of peace. It can also be the first cause of loneliness especially when you are among friends who are in relationships. If you are single and you are reading this, there is no way you will not relate to at least two of the points that I have highlighted here.
You Constantly Remind Yourself That You Are Fine Alone
Even when you know that you are drowning in the pool of loneliness, you consistently keep your head above water with constant reminder that you are doing very well on your own. There is no day you do not wake up and beat your chest while telling yourself that you are a strong person. When you start fantasizing about a new relationship, you look back at your previous relationships and assure your self that you are better off alone.
Friends In Relationships See You As Their Go-To Person
This remains a wonder to many people. People in relationships easily gravitate towards their single friends for relationship advice because they think you’re much more rational than they are. One, two, three, your friend that is in a relationship is already in your DMs asking for your opinion on a relationship matter. This makes you very confident about being single because who wants to go through all that relationship stress?
No One Believes That You Are Single
“Fine girl like you is single?”, “You are too cute to be single” yadi yada. This is what you’ll be hearing every time you meet someone and you tell them the honest to God truth that you are single. It’s like everyone is supposed to be in a relationship whether they are fine or not necessarily pleasing to look at.
You Are Always Working On Yourself
Have you noticed how single people are always saying they’re working and focusing on themselves? Yeah, that’s what you unconsciously do too, “right now, I just want to focus on myself and be a better version of myself” blah blah blah. You weren’t focusing on yourself when you were in that relationship.
Making Money Is The Goal
Money making becomes the center of your life. When you ask a single guy “how far? what are you doing about your relationship status?”, he goes ahead to reply you with “that one no be the important thing now, nah money I dey find.” I always wonder if money wasn’t the important thing when they were in a relationship. Even when you are daydreaming about being in love, you pinch yourself to wake up, money is the goal.
Your Next Relationship Will Be Better
Nobody reminds themselves that what is coming next will be better than the previous one than single people assuring themselves that their next relationship will be better than their former relationship. It is what they do with each relationship and they are not stopping anytime soon. Your friends even join in assuring you that a better person is coming.
You Are Always The Third Wheel
Doesn’t it hurt to be the third wheel on an outing with your friends that are a couple? They do it so you do not feel left out or your friend needs company just for you to get there and become irrelevant. The most annoying part of it is that when they start having arguments, they ask you for confirmation to what they are saying and you’re just there, sitting or standing confused, wondering what it has got to do with you.
You Automatically Master The Art Of Flirting
Since you are not committed or accountable to anyone, you develop a talent of flirting. When you meet a relatively attractive person, you do not see any harm in indulging yourself in a harmless flirtatious conversation while desperately hoping that the person doesn’t take you seriously.
