Demola Olarewaju, the Special Assistant, Digital Media Strategy to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate for the 2023 election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, says the resignation of Iyorchia Ayu as the National Chairman of the party will not amount to much because the next in line constitutionally is Umar Damagum, the Deputy National Chairman of the PDP (North) who is a Fulani Muslim.
Newsbreak.ng reports that the camp of Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State in the main opposition party is calling for the resignation or removal from office of the incumbent PDP National Chairman.
On Wednesday morning, they announced their withdrawal from participating in the presidential campaign of the party for the 2023 elections. Reacting to development, Atiku said he cannot ‘force’ Ayu to resign his position.
Atiku’s aide also has his say: “Ayu’s resignation means nothing but chaos, because the next in line constitutionally is Damagum, a Fulani Muslim.
“Everyone should move on at this point and work first for the victory of the party. Issues can be revisited afterwards,” Olarewaju wrote in a quote tweet via his known handle on Wednesday.
