Spanish Magistrate Maria del Carmen Molina was reported to have humiliated a woman, who alleged her husband repeatedly abused her “sexually and physically”.
The unnamed woman reported that matter to the police before seeking an injunction order by Magistrate Molina against her husband. Rather than getting a reprieve, what she got from Judge Molina “shocked” her.
The judge reportedly interrupted the five-month-old pregnant woman while rendering her account of what transpired.
“Did you close your legs properly? Did you close off your female organs?”, the judge allegedly asked her.
Judge Molina’s action sparked a fury and was deplored by a women’s rights group – The Clara Campoamor Association. The group dubbed the judges interrogation of the woman as “offensive” and reported her to the national judicial council (CGPJ). The advocacy group is demanding that she be suspended or dismissed. “This question is offensive, degrading and humiliating,” said Blanca Estrella, president of the Clara Campoamor association.
“It shows a complete lack of professional rigour and ethical treatment of the victim,” she added.
