Olakunle Oluomo, Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, has explained why four lawmakers are sharing one toilet facility at the assembly complex.
The Speaker said the inadequate infrastructural amenities at the assembly complex had made the leadership of the assembly to ask four members to share one toilet facility.
Oluomo went on to say that three to four officers of the assembly at Grade Level 14 also share one small apartment as an office.
The Speaker made this known while presenting the prototype of the proposed new assembly complex shortly after the state governor, Dapo Abiodun, had laid the 2020 budget proposal before the house on Tuesday.
He lamented that successive administrations had denied the legislature the required attention in terms of infrastructure since it was established in 1979.
According to him, the legislature was deprived of deserving infrastructural amenities while the executive and the judiciary “have continuously enjoyed the provision of new infrastructural facility from successive administrations in the state.”
He said, “During the long stretch of military reign in Nigeria, the legislature, which truly represents the governed, was eroded but it becomes more painful that since the commencement of the Fourth Republic in 1999, the legislature has not been given the required attention in terms of infrastructure.
“While the Ogun State legislature has been using the same building, which lacks modern amenities and where four members share one rest-room facility (toilet), since 1979 despite being an arm of government, other arms of government, such as the executive and the judiciary have continuously enjoyed provision of new infrastructural facilities from successive administrations in the state.”
