Philip Obin, Technical Assistant to the Vice President, has explained why his principal did not attend the burial of late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, and 10 other military officers who were buried on Saturday.

Attahiru and the personnel were killed in an air crash in Kaduna on Friday.
Their remains were laid to rest at the National Military Cemetery on Saturday afternoon.
The event was attended by a number of government officials, including Minister of Information and National Orientation, Lai Mohammed, and Minister of Defence, Bashir Magashi, who represented President Muhammadu Buhari.

However, Buhari’s absence and that of the vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, attracted condemnation from Nigerians on social media.
But explaining why Osinbajo was not at the event, Obin, in a Twitter post on Sunday, said only the President can decides who represents him at any occasion.
He berated Nigerians who dragged the vice president over his absence at the funeral.

He wrote: “The usual suspects have once again tried to drag VP Osinbajo for not attending the late Army Chief’s funeral, forgetting that in such events it’s normally the Commander in Chief that decides who represents him & on this occassion the CinC was represented by the Defence Minister.”
