A woman in the Ebute Meta area of Lagos State has been accused of inserting a broomstick laced with pepper into a 9-year-old boy’s penis. The woman, identified as Bassey, was said to have accused the boy, Promise, of stealing her N2,000.
The matter was reported to police by neighbours who observed the continued abuse of the boy, who is Bassey’s nephew. They said Promise had been living with the woman and her four children after he lost his parents five years ago. He was allegedly removed from school and made an errand boy by the family.
He was taken to a hospital, where the stick of broom was removed.
The police confirmed the report, saying Bassey has been arrested and that officials of the state Office of the Public Defender have taken the victim to a government shelter.
