The Osun Police Command has said a woman who reportedly threw her two daughters into a well located at Anjoorin Street, in the Koledowo community of Osogbo, will undergo a psychiatric test.
The woman, identified simply as Omowumi, was said to have thrown her two children – Nimisire and Darasimi – into a well on Monday.
The suspect is said to have recently returned to Nigeria from a country in the Middle East and has been described as mentally unstable.
Speaking on the incident, the police command’s spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, said the suspect was handed over to doctors for a psychiatric test after her arrest.
Opalola noted that her test result would determine the next line of action by the police.
She said: “The suspect is still at the police custody and had laid down the matter to a psychiatrist who would determine her mental state.
Although people noted she was of unsound mind, we are more focused on her medical test.”
Meanwhile, the two victim’s bodies had been recovered dead from the well.
Speaking with a resident in the area, who analyses her mental condition, said the victims were recovered on Thursday by two Hausa men hired by the community.
