Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a middle-aged woman, whose naked body was found dumped on the banks of Tiva River in Tanganyika sub location, Kitui County, Kenya.

Richard Kipchai, deputy commissioner, said unidentified woman’s body was spotted by locals, who informed his office.
He said when he and his team rushed to the scene, they found out that police officers had already arrived and put the deceased in a body bag, with the victim yet to be identified.

Police said the woman died a painful death, since her body was gull of scars and wounds, with no clue as to the cause of her death, or who dumped her at the place.
Reports say based on preliminary investigations, it appears the woman was brutally tortured.

She reportedly had bruises on her neck, marks on her back and scars on the other parts of the body.
Police officers have asked residents of the area to come forward and assist in identifying the deceased.

The woman’s body was taken to Kitui County referral hospital mortuary.
